Blog #9 Using web-based resources

I know i have already blogged about this website but as a future educator any program i will be using will definetly be web-based in today's fast paced and technological environment the internet is the best and most modern tool. It is kept updated and is for the most part the most reliable and quickest resource out there. i would definelty use the math website created by James woodland of FSU's math department. It includes many programs for practice as well as programs that explain the material so you get a much better understanding of the subject matter. this website has helped me through 3 math courses at FSU and i dont think i would of done any where as well as i did withouth this useful web-based tool. I will definetly be using this website if i am a math teacher in the future. www.math.fsu.edu/~woodland is the link to this awesome website. As a teacher i will definetly be using excel, it is extremely useful and you can insert formulas so if a incorret value or letter is entered into the box it shows up bold and red which is an immediate indicator and the student will be forced to go back and correct it becaue it will be so distracting. I will definetly be using powerpoint and word to create quizzes and tests for my classes, if it is an inclass quiz i will probably use powerpoint and if they select the wrong answer a slide comes up notifing the student they are wrong and they will have to go back and do the problem until they get the answer correct. My area of expertise would be highschool history or geography so i can include facts and pictures about the subject matter along the way of the lesson plan/scheduale.

Blog #3 Lesson Plan

When creating a lesson plan for my students i would definetly use the technology skills we have learned on power point first of all. It is such a useful program and it is very useful for visual and audio learners so it will only help all the students and me as the teacher create a easy flow but meaningful presentation to get the information to my students across. I would probably go over the presidents or the state capitals in the United States using Powerpoint becasue i would be able to include pictures and other sounds or movies that would display the information i am trying to get across. For the website i am critiquing i am using the one i use now for liberal arts math and all math courses at FSU. it was created by James woodland and has many practice areas of stuff we went over in class by each section. It is a very useful too and has only aided me so far at Florida State i also used it for business statistics. It has many links to other helpful math websites online as well so either way you are goinbg to get the info weither on this website or one that has a link to it on the main page of this site. The website link is www.math.fsu.edu/~woodland. my experience with copyrighted material is very minimal it is only the material i have used for a presentation or other school projects and citations. I would personally deal with these issues as a teacher by just citing every piece of information i use via the internet/microsoft programs to worksheets with pictures on them just so i am safe with my copyright infrigments. I would also just make my students Cite everything as well. you can never be too safe these days

Blog #12

Personally i found everything we did in this class very interesting and will be useful to me for years to come as a teacher. I have never used blog before this class and seeing it in use has proven to me that it can be a very useful tool for teaching and learning. It is a good program and i will probably end up using it in the future as a educator when i get a position. The skills that i would like to go on and learn from here i guess are just to master all the Microsoft programs that we went over in class i definitely have a working knowledge of all the programs we used in this class but i would really like to master them and complete all the skills and tasks available in these very useful educational tools. The way i would go about getting all of these programs and skills mastered is either to take a higher up education technology class or i could even go to a program that teaches you to master most of the programs on your computer. However since i still have two years for my bachelors degree at FSU it would be the smarter decision to take a couple more technology classes to get all of the skills and programs mastered by the time i become a educator so i will be able to use them and only make it easier for me to teach and easier for my students to learn.

Using Twitter Blog #11

I have never used twitter before and despite me thinking that it is completely annoying i guess it is very useful to keep in touch with what people are doing at that exact minute. I mean it is fun to keep up with all the celebrities and bands that i keep track of but other than that it really has no use to me. And no i dont plan on using twitter ever again i hardly even use facebook as it is i just never really got all big into the internet thing except when i am checking weather conditions for surf other than that i am hardly ever on the internet i just think it is a big waste of time when you could be doing something more productive outside for instance. Yes it could be a very useful education tool if used correctly but your students would have so many oppertunities to get off task with twitter becasue there are so many things going on at once on that website. So ultimately if used correctly twitter could be very useful but it could also be the downfall of you and your students.

Personally i believe that presentation power points and other visual tools are only a plus for the student and the teachers. It makes it that much easier for a teacher to present the information and it makes it that much easier for the student to see and understand the information that he or she is being presented with. The graphs and other visual tools that you are able to use in visual presentations only makes the information easier to grab mentally because you are actually visually taking in the information the same time the teacher is explaining it. Since i am looking to teach at a higher level in education maybe high school i would have the students work in groups and come up with their own presentation covering a small section of the whole topic that the class is going over at the time of the assignment. They would than be given evaluation forms for their peers and they would watch each group present so you know they fully understand the information and have a working knowledge of the subject matter.

Blog #6

I did really enjoy the web 2.0 program. I would definitly use that in my lesson plans as a teacher. I think that my students will really benefit and enjoy from the visual tools that web 2.0 offers. It will really help them learn at a quicker and more efficent way. I really enjoyed the wikispace website becasue it will only better a group presentation becasue they can all input info/data and adjust the info accordingly. These will only improve the validity of the information that is presented by the students. I would assign a presentation much like the one we were assigned on wikispace to where they each have their own space but it is all connected through a central home page. I think that all the skills i learned involving Wikispace can only inprove my skills as a teacher. I espically enjoyed the part of wiki that allows you to embed a video of an example of a problem. It would be a great visual tool but would also assist the students who are vocal learners. I truely believe that all the technological tools we have used up to this point only make the learning more efficent and worth while.
